Caoxian County in east China's Shandong Province is at the start of the asparagus harvesting season, with factories working round the clock to process and can the vegetable for global export. The county's asparagus, recognized as a geographical indication product, is the primary export for many companies, with an annual export of approximately 11,000 tons. The vegetable is also used to create various value-added products like tea, juice, and beer. Local farmers, aided by cooperatives, have found asparagus cultivation profitable, with a total planting area of 13,333 hectares and an annual output of 180,000 tons. The county has 24 asparagus processing companies that together have an annual processing capacity of 190,000 tons, generating an annual export revenue of 200 million U.S. dollars.
