In April 2021, Serbia experienced a notable shift in its agricultural trade patterns. The country saw a significant increase in the export of fresh and frozen potatoes, reaching record levels, primarily to the Balkan Peninsula and Russia. Conversely, there was a notable decline in the export of carrots and cabbage, as well as the import of frozen peas and beans.
Additionally, Serbia imported a higher volume of other root crops and experienced a doubling of dried onion imports from India and Egypt. The fruit segment saw an unexpected rise in the import of melons and watermelons, along with an increase in the re-export of bananas. The demand for imported almonds also surged, with a two-and-a-half fold increase compared to the previous year.
