Guatemala's mango harvest season lasts from March to May, with April being the peak month. The country has a mango planting area of 13,455 hectares, with Retalhuleu Province having the largest planting area. The majority of mangoes exported are Tommy Atkins, with 90%. The 2023 rainy season affected the 2024 harvest and export volume, resulting in a decrease of about 19% in exports compared to 2023. Mango cultivation is permanent as trees can survive up to 50 years. However, labor recruitment has become a challenge due to migration. Despite the challenges, Guatemala plans to export 4.6 million boxes of mangoes this year, a 31% increase from last year.
