Sugar producer Magdalena plans to invest in a 650,000-liter precision fermentation facility in Guatemala. The investment is to diversify production to reduce exposure to volatile sugar markets, according to AGFunder News (AFN) in a statement released by the International Sugar Organization (ISO). The precision fermentation unit will be built next to Magdalena's sugar mill in Guatemala. The project phase, planned for 2027, will be a pilot/demonstration facility with 50,000 liters of fermentation capacity and 2,000 liters for the pilot. It is estimated that by 2028 the capacity will increase to 200,000 liters, reaching 650,000 liters in 2030.
