Russia is facing a shortage in local fruit and vegetable production, resulting in a reliance on imports, which makes up two-thirds of its annual consumption. Vietnam and Peru are significant suppliers, with Vietnam seeing an 114% increase in exports to Russia in January 2021. Meanwhile, Vietnam's total vegetable and fruit exports in the first quarter of 2021 reached 966.72 million USD, with the Chinese market experiencing a 16.2% growth. Despite the COVID-19 impact, mango exports brought in over 180 million USD in 2020, primarily to China. Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development aims to expand mango cultivation to 140,000 hectares by 2030, with an production target of 1.5 million tons and an export turnover of 650 million USD.
