(Yeoju=Yonhap News) Reporter U-Sung Lee = The rice purchase prices for this year in the rice-producing regions of Yeoju and Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, have been determined.
The agricultural cooperatives in Yeoju and Icheon regions have decided to raise the purchase price of rice by 3,000 won (based on 40 kg of rice) compared to last year.
According to the Yeoju Agricultural Cooperative Corporation (RPC, involving 8 regional agricultural cooperatives) on the 25th, the board of directors held a meeting on the 23rd and decided to increase the "2025 rice purchase price" by 3,000 won compared to last year.
The Yeoju Agricultural Cooperative Corporation stated, "Last year, the price was frozen, but this year's purchase price was set considering the increase in market prices, market demand for rice, requests for increase from farmer organizations, and market trends in other regions."
Accordingly, the purchase price for the main variety, 'Jinsangbyeo', was set at 88,000 won, and for 'Chucheongbyo' at 80,000 won (all based on 40 kg).
Icheon, another major rice-producing region in Gyeonggi Province, finalized its purchase price a month ago.
The Icheon Cooperative Operations Council, involving 10 regional agricultural cooperatives, held a meeting on the 22nd of last month and decided to increase the purchase price of rice by 3,000 won compared to last year.
By variety, the purchase price for 'Alchanmi' was set at 83,000 won, and for 'Haedul', 'Jinok', and 'Jinwang' at 84,000 to 86,000 won (all based on 40 kg).
