(Hadong=Yonhap News) Reporter Park Jeong-heon = On the 29th, Hadong County in Gyeongnam Province announced that it had urgently supplied 25,000 strawberry seedlings to farmers whose crops were devastated by heavy summer rains and autumn monsoon.
According to the county, record-breaking heavy rains in July caused significant disruptions to strawberry production, and the recent monsoon led to a sharp decrease in sunlight.
These weather anomalies reduced the production rate and spread diseases such as wilt and anthracnose, resulting in the inability of strawberry seedlings to grow healthily.
To address this, the county quickly supplied strawberry seedlings to severely affected farmers to help stabilize early growth and restore productivity.
Hadong is one of the top strawberry production areas in the country, known for its clean natural environment and excellent cultivation techniques, producing high-sugar and high-quality strawberries every year.
In the future, the county plans to continue multifaceted support policies, including new variety breeding, cultivation technology research, and the dissemination of smart farms, to create a stable strawberry production base and increase local farmers' income.
A county official said, "We hope that even a small amount of help can contribute to the business stability of farmers facing difficulties due to unexpected weather anomalies."
