In 2020, Spain and Mexico emerged as the largest exporters of cucumbers and gherkins, contributing to 47% of the global export of these vegetables, with Spain's exports valued at € 622 million, a 9.6% increase from the previous year, and Mexico's exports at € 542 million, a 14.7% increase. The United States was the primary importer of Mexican cucumber and gherkin exports, receiving 98.8% of the shipments. Other significant exporters included the Netherlands, Canada, the United States, and China. The cucumber is the fourth most cultivated vegetable globally, with a rich history dating back over 3,000 years in India and being introduced to Europe through the Roman Empire.
