Turkiye: Harvest season for bananas has started in Mersin

As the busy harvest period begins in Mersin, where more than half of Turkey's banana needs are produced, producers stated that bananas harvested in the garden for 16-18 TL are sold for around 30 TL in the market, and suggested consuming the local ones instead of the imported ones, whose prices go up to 80 TL. In Mersin, which ranks first in Turkey's fresh vegetable and fruit production, various products are harvested in every season by producing under cover as well as in open areas. Banana, which is produced intensively especially in Anamur, Bozyazı, Silifke and Erdemli, also attracts attention. The city, where one of every two bananas consumed throughout the country is produced, has entered its busy period under cover. It was reported that the first quality price of local bananas in the garden is 16-18 TL.
