Ukraine is dominated by hazelnuts in nut orchards, accounting for 98% of the market with an estimated volume of 6-8 thousand tons. Despite this, the country still imports around 1,000 tons of kernels, mainly from Georgia, Turkey, and Azerbaijan. The Ukrainian Nut Association is pushing for import substitution and increasing domestic production to meet growing demand, with projections reaching 14-15 thousand tons by 2030. The association is also looking at potential export opportunities to Europe and is advocating for cooperation among stakeholders to improve the competitiveness of Ukrainian hazelnuts.
