Georgia is compiling an inventory of hazelnuts to improve industry coordination, protection from diseases and pests, and support planning. The inventory will include data on hazelnut orchards, owners, varieties, yields, and ages. The government and the Georgian Hazelnut Growers Association will collaborate on this project. Due to long rains and increased costs, this year's hazelnut harvest was smaller and of lower quality, with only 20% being premium. However, there is demand for high-quality hazelnuts in both the Georgian and international markets. To support farmers, a new state program will provide subsidies and preferential loans, and a memorandum with Liberty Bank allows farmers to use stored hazelnuts as collateral for loans.
