A recent study by NIOZ ecologists, published in Global Change Biology, has found that young herring in the Wadden Sea are arriving earlier in spring due to climate change. This trend was possible only due to consistent sampling of the fish in the Wadden Sea for over 60 years, done with the same fyke net method. The research highlights the importance of long-term monitoring to observe such changes.
