After a successful year for canned and preserved fish producers in 2024, a decline followed. According to AB-Center, if in 2024 Russia produced 17.6% more preserves than in 2023, 113,800 tons, then from January to November 2025, it was already 90,600 tons, 11.1% less than in the same period of the previous year. The decline in cans is not as impressive, but still noticeable: from 199,600 tons in 2024 to 173,400 tons from January to November 2025 (-5.8%). Preserves differ from canned goods in that their contents are not heat-treated. "The reduction in production volumes is mainly due to a noticeable rise in fish prices due to low catches," says AB-Center CEO Alexey Plugov. The catch is decreasing worldwide, he adds.
