South Korea: Highly pathogenic avian influenza at Gimpo laying hen farm, the first outbreak in Gyeonggi

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) has broken out at a laying hen farm in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province. This is the first outbreak in the Gyeonggi region since this fall. The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for Highly Pathogenic AI (Director Song Mi-ryeong, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs) announced on the 20th that the Gyeonggi Animal Sanitation Testing Laboratory confirmed highly pathogenic AI during a preliminary inspection of the farm. This is the 13th case nationwide this winter and the 8th since December. The farm in question was found to be raising approximately 75,000 ducks for meat.
