The Hoang Kim star apple tree, originally from Taiwan, is cultivated in Vietnam using seed nursery, extraction, and grafting techniques. The tree begins bearing fruit after three years if grown from seeds, or more quickly if grown from cuttings or grafted trees. Unlike other star apple varieties, which are usually only fruit once a year, the Hoang Kim star apple produces fruit throughout the year, requiring minimal care and dealing with pests. Harvests are done three times a year, with each tree yielding an average of 10-12kg of fruits per harvest. Binh Tan district in Vinh Long province has established the Thanh Binh Production and Service Cooperative for the production and distribution of Hoang Kim star apple, with plans to achieve a 3-star OCOP rating by the end of 2023.
