(Seoul=Yonhap News) Reporter Sin Seon-mi = Homeplus announced on the 19th that it will be fully commercializing regional specialty products to achieve mutual prosperity with local farms.
The representative products are garlic from Seosan, Chungnam (6-cleft peeled garlic) and highland green onions from Pyeongchang, Gangwon.
Seosan garlic is known for its large cloves, rich aroma, and excellent storage properties.
To this end, Homeplus has secured more than 20 tons of the product through contract farming with over 200 farms in Seosan, and has commercialized it in the form of peeled garlic so that consumers can use it directly without having to peel it themselves.
Pyeongchang is a summer green onion production area. The highland green onions, grown at an average altitude of over 700 meters, have a length of 40 cm in the white stem part, firm texture, and strong aroma, and are evaluated as a high-quality product.
Homeplus evaluated the commercial value of the Pyeongchang green onions to be high and secured the quantity early.
A Homeplus official said, "Stable sales channels are important, especially during periods when farmers are struggling with extreme heat and heavy rain," and "In the future, we will continue to provide fresh products to consumers and sustainable sales channels to farmers through the commercialization of regional specialty products."
