A study conducted in Honduras has found that farmers who grow genetically modified (GM) maize report higher yields and income, and find it easier to manage. The study, which interviewed 32 farmers from five regions in Honduras in 2018 and 2019, found that 75% of them had knowledge about basic biotechnology and GM maize. Additionally, 84% of the farmers reported that they did not need to use pesticides on their GM maize crops, which was credited for easier crop management. The authors of the study suggested that the benefits of GM maize in Honduras could be increased with more proactive government action in sharing knowledge and facilitating credit access.
