The European Union, led by Spain, is the world's second-largest honey producer. However, consumer consumption in Spain, at 18,000 tons annually for the past decade, does not reflect this production level. Honey is consumed by 5.5% of the population under 35 and 71.4% aged 50 or above. Despite its health benefits like aiding red blood cell formation and hormonal regulation, regular consumption among the younger demographic is low due to time constraints. An initiative, Familias Mielenials, aims to promote European honey consumption through an information campaign, highlighting recipes and benefits to encourage more Spanish households to incorporate honey into their daily diets.
