The avocado harvest in Peru is expected to be delayed this year due to a late flowering season, according to Cristiam Calderón, the production manager of Green Fruits Perú. The delay has caused uneven fruit growth, potentially leading to smaller fruit sizes at harvest time. Despite this, Calderón anticipates high demand for fruit abroad in the March-April window. He also noted that the quality of the fruit remains good barring any extreme weather events. Calderón highlighted that most avocado orchards have 90% of the desired number of fruits per plant, but their growth may be affected. He emphasized the importance of maintaining quality, citing the reduction of cadmium detection in some containers.
