In the first seven months of 2024, Hungary experienced a 31% increase in wine imports compared to the previous year, but the country saw a significant success in wine exports, with more than 20 times more domestic wine sold abroad than imported. The export price of Hungarian wines, especially those without a geographical indication, saw a nearly 5% increase to around HUF 30,000 per hectoliter, while the price of red wines experienced a decrease. The volume of exported wine grew by 27% to 648.4 thousand hectoliters, generating a sales revenue of HUF 23.6 billion from external markets. Despite the increase in imports, the article highlights that Hungarian consumers largely prefer domestic wines.
