Hungarian agricultural producers are planning to increase the sowing area for potatoes by 300–400 hectares in 2025, reaching a total of 5,700–5,800 hectares. This expansion is expected to benefit both early and late potato varieties, although the planting of late varieties has been delayed by 2–3 weeks due to rainy weather in March. Despite challenges such as reduced consumption and dependence on imported seeds, the National Potato Growers Association of Hungary does not anticipate any supply disruptions. The industry is capitalizing on the growing demand for processing potatoes, with a focus on products like chips, frozen foods, and mashed potatoes. The association is hopeful that European trends in the processing industry may positively impact the Hungarian sector.
