Global coffee exports have experienced a consistent decline, with a 2.6% decrease in April compared to the previous year, resulting in a total reduction of 6.2% in the first seven months of the 2022-2023 crop year, according to the International Coffee Organization. This downturn is led by a drop in arabica coffee exports, including specific groups like Brazilian green arabica and Colombian arabica, while robusta coffee exports have seen an increase, reaching a high in recent years in terms of their share of total exports. The decline is widespread across major producing regions such as South America and Africa, with the causes including adverse weather conditions and political instability, despite some increases in exports from Central America and a slight rise in instant coffee exports. Asia and Oceania present the only region with an increase in coffee exports, with Vietnam's robusta coffee exports playing a significant role due to production increases and supply constraints in other major robusta producers.
