However, total world coffee exports for the first 10 months of the year were 3.8% lower than the previous year. The 2019-2020 crop year saw a slight decrease in global coffee output, with Robusta production increasing by 3.2% and Arabica production decreasing by 5.1%. Brazil experienced a decline in coffee production, while Colombia and Peru saw decreases in arabica coffee production. Africa's production remained steady, with Ethiopia and Uganda experiencing increases in harvest. Global coffee consumption is estimated to have decreased by 0.9% from October 2019 to September of the same year, leading to an expected surplus of 961,000 bags and limiting the recovery of the ICO synthetic coffee price index for the 2019-2020 crop to an average of 107.25 US cents / lb.
