The Brazilian government's decision to halt beef exports to China due to a BSE outbreak creates a significant opportunity for the Irish beef sector, according to Tim Cullinan, President of the Irish Farmers' Association (IFA). The IFA is urging the Irish government to act quickly to reinstate Irish beef exports to China, which surged in value by over 60% to €22.5 million in the first half of 2020. Irish farmers, known for their high production standards, could benefit from the growing demand for quality meat in the Chinese market, especially as Ireland has recently been recognized by the OIE as having negligible BSE risk status.
