The Murcian Institute of Agricultural and Environmental Research and Development (IMIDA) is developing new varieties of grapefruit that will improve production, have higher quality, more added value, and a greater diversity of production periods than those currently on the market. The Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, Sara Rubira, assured that "these results will benefit producers by increasing the efficiency of improvement programs, the profitability of the crop, production, and export." Rubira highlighted that "it will allow us to offer consumers healthier and more ecological products, reduce phytosanitary treatments, and strengthen agriculture as an economic engine of the Region of Murcia."
