With the arrival of summer, fruit and vegetable markets are filling up with imported citrus fruits, particularly oranges and lemons from the Mediterranean basin – Spain, Egypt, and Greece – but also from the Southern Hemisphere, with significant volumes from Argentina and South Africa. This presence is attracting traders' attention, driven by a clear price increase compared to recent seasons, especially for lemons and oranges. The grapefruit situation remains more stable, though with less significant volumes. This situation emerges clearly during our recent visit to the Caab in Bologna, where specialized wholesalers in imported citrus fruits are not lacking. Here, quotations are showing a strong increase compared to the same period in 2024. In particular, lemons from the Southern Hemisphere – as well as the latest Spanish batches – are fetching prices above 2 euros/kg for the most important calibers.
