Russia has become the world's largest buyer of tangerines, importing 406,000 tons of the fruit, or 21 percent of global purchases, in the period from January to September. The increase in imports is due to high demand and rising prices, as well as the fruit's association with winter holidays and its ability to quench thirst in spring and summer. Other top tangerine importing countries include the United States, the UK, France, and Germany, with differences in both volume and monetary terms.
