Corrientes, Argentina is facing a critical situation in its rice production due to a drought, with an estimated 50% crop loss. Pedro Tomasella, a rice farmer, has highlighted the severe impact of the drought and lack of water reserves, stating that it is the worst situation he has ever seen in his 50-year career. The province is expected to produce only 50,000 hectares, which is less than half of the normal 90,000 hectares. Christian Jetter, an agronomist and secretary of the Correntina Association of Rice Producers, has declared the season as lean due to reduced planting and continuous drought. Despite the potential quality issues, the rice from Corrientes has an advantage in the market as it uses fewer agrochemicals.
