Barley, the raw material for beer production, does not have extensive farmland in Hungary. It is much more popular in the western part of Europe, especially in Germany, due to the higher volume of "liquid bread" production. Because of this, German crop estimates were more cautious, particularly because wheat and rapeseed were also seriously affected by the spring drought.
