Shrimp and pangasius exports from Vietnam to China have seen a fourfold increase compared to the same period last year, with shrimp exports valued at nearly $73 million and pangasius at nearly $50 million. Other major markets such as the US, Japan, and the EU also experienced significant growth in January, with increases of 63%, 43%, and 34% respectively. Despite this growth, challenges are anticipated for 2024, including concerns about shrimp raw material sources due to off-season and epidemics, potential anti-subsidy tariffs, and high selling prices. The pangasius industry is showing slight improvements, with raw pangasius prices increasing from 25-26,000 VND/kg in 2023 to 28-29,000/kg at the beginning of 2024.
