The EU relies heavily on imports to meet its soybean meal demand, producing only 63% of the required 50 million tonnes domestically. Soybean meal, which makes up 60% of total consumption and 80% of imports, is primarily supplied by Brazil. Rapeseed meal, with minimal imports, accounts for 30% of consumption, while sunflower meal represents the smallest share at 10% consumption and 13% import. In the 2023/2024 season, EU soybean meal imports hit a five-year low, with Brazil's supply share rising to 63% and Ukraine's to 3%.
