The Innovative Research and Production Center (INPTSM) on Popov Island is making significant strides in mariculture, as reported during the VI Eastern Economic Forum with Ilya Shestakov, the head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries, in attendance. The center, which began operations in 2019, is dedicated to the development and implementation of technologies for industrial rearing of juvenile invertebrates and algae, and is capable of processing around 10 million viable juvenile trepang or scallop per year, along with kelp seedlings for 100 hectares of cultivation. Under the leadership of the Pacific branch of the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution "VNIRO," the center has seen breakthroughs in growing Japanese kelp and introducing shaggy-hand crab under factory conditions. Shestakov emphasizes the importance of continued collaboration with business to introduce these advancements and accelerate mariculture industry growth.
