Brazil: Increase in the volume of strawberries harvested in the Caxias do Sul region

In the Caxias do Sul region, the recent period was marked by sunny and favorable weather conditions for strawberry cultivation, resulting in a significant increase in the volume harvested. However, despite innovative control measures, plants display symptoms of Xanthomonas, and losses due to anthracnose persist. The Drosophila suzukii pest is present, but the effectiveness of control actions has been remarkable. Local producers are concentrating their efforts on works and adjustments for the planting and replanting of seedlings in the coming months, using seedlings of both Spanish and national origin. A significant increase in the cultivated area is expected. Considering the limited supply in relation to the usual demand, the amounts received by producers in sales to markets, fruit shops and ceas remain at relatively high levels, varying between R$ 14.00 and R$ 25.00 per kilo.
