India has permitted export-oriented units and companies located in Special Economic Zones to export flour made from imported wheat, as per a recent government order. Food processors will be able to import wheat duty-free to meet the commitment to export flour. This decision comes after India's ban on wheat exports to ensure domestic supply, which was imposed due to reduced crop yields caused by increased temperatures. The move aims to meet the demand for value-added products and is expected to boost flour exports, which surged 200% between April and July 2022 following the ban.
