India is turning to Russia for sunflower oil as imports from Ukraine have stopped due to the conflict in Ukraine and reduced harvest in South America. The cost of crude sunflower oil from Russia has surged to a record $2,150 a tonne due to increased demand. Indian buyers had ceased orders from Russia for a month but have now resumed, with Gemini Edibles & Fats India Pvt.LTd contracting 12,000 tonnes for April shipments. India's current refineries can only import about 80,000 tonnes of the 200,000 tonnes of sunflower oil it consumes annually, leading to consumers switching to other oils.
