The Indian government has decided against lifting the ban on wheat exports that was implemented in May 2022 to curb rising domestic prices. However, it will consider requests for shipments through diplomatic channels on a case-by-case basis. The country's wheat production is projected to increase by 10 million tonnes compared to the previous year, reaching 112.18 million tonnes in the 2023-24 crop year. Despite this increase, the government is prioritizing local consumption and plans to supply some wheat to countries like Nepal and Bhutan through government-to-government trade.
