India's sugar production is estimated to reach between 33.5 million to 34.5 million tonnes in the 2022/23 crop year, with exports reaching only 6.1 million tonnes, a significant drop from the previous year. The decrease in exports is due to anticipated reductions in production, particularly in Maharhestra. However, if the crop output exceeds 34 million tons and the government has sufficient reserves in April, an additional 1 million tons of sugar exports may be approved. The Indian Sugar Mills Association and the All India Sugar Trade Association have reduced their forecasts for sugar production to 34 million tonnes and 33.5 million tonnes, respectively. In response to the government's target of blending 20% ethanol in gasoline by 2025, Balrampur Chini Mills is converting 20% of its sucrose production to ethanol production, with other mills also increasing ethanol production to meet the target.
