The Central Tuber Research Institute in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, has successfully tested new high-yielding, pest-resistant varieties of cassava and Chinese potato in two villages in southwestern India. The 'Sree Reksha' cassava variety, which yields 45 tons per hectare and is resistant to the Cassava Mosaic Disease, was planted in the fields of five growers. The Chinese potato, a staple crop in the Tenkasi district, was planted in the fields of eight growers. Both varieties have shown promising results in terms of yield and are expected to increase the income of the growers.
