India to lift tariffs on U.S. apples, almonds, walnuts

India is lifting retaliatory tariffs on U.S. apples, almonds and walnuts, after the two nations agreed to terminate six outstanding disputes at the World Trade Organization. The tariffs were in response to the U.S. Section 232 national security measures on steel and aluminum. U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tai announced the move on June 22, during India Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the U.S.USApple was invited to attend Modi’s arrival ceremony at the White House June 22. “We were honored to be part of this important day for U.S.-India relations,” Jim Bair, USApple president and CEO, said in a news release. India will remove its retaliatory tariffs within 90 days.
