India has emerged as the world's leading exporter of pickled cucumbers and gherkins, with shipments exceeding 123,000 tons abroad throughout 2021, valued at $114 million. This is a significant increase from the previous year's exports, which totaled 223,515 metric tons worth $223 million from April to October. The cultivation, production, and export of cucumbers for canning in India began in the early 1990s and has since grown to account for nearly 15% of the global production in countries like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. These products are exported to over 20 countries, with the United States, France, Germany, Australia, Spain, South Korea, Canada, Japan, Belgium, Russia, China, Sri Lanka, and Israel being the main recipients.
