The president of the Hungarian Bakers Association, József Septe, has explained the significant increase in the prices of bread and bakery products in Hungary, highlighting the impact of rising raw material and energy costs, as well as wage and logistics expenses. He noted that the price of flour has tripled, gas has increased seven to eight times, and electricity has gone up ten to twelve times since last year. As a result, bakery companies are facing soaring costs, which they are passing on to customers. The cost of baking companies is expected to rise further due to additional raw material price increases and the withdrawal of companies from the HUF 480 discounted refueling. The association is also considering changes to the rules that prevent the sale of half or quarter kilos of bread, as not everyone can afford to buy a full kilo.
