Hungary's fruit sector has been significantly impacted by this year's drought, leading to a decrease in domestic fruit-growing areas and a reduced harvest. The country is projected to produce 42% less apples than last year, around 300,000 tons, and cherries are also affected. However, the plum, peach, and apricot harvests are expected to be slightly higher than usual. The president of FruitVeb emphasized that the drought not only affects this year's harvest but also influences the amount of next year's harvest. Additionally, the cost of modern technology, such as frost and ice damage protection and irrigation, will be incorporated into the price of fruit, leading to a anticipated increase in fruit market prices.
