The International Seafood Sustainability Foundation (ISSF) has called on the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC) to strengthen compliance processes and expand vessel monitoring ahead of its annual meeting. ISSF emphasized the importance of robust compliance policies, vessel-level monitoring, and transparency in tuna fisheries, particularly in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. The IATTC has already taken steps towards improving compliance and implementing electronic monitoring programs, but ISSF believes more needs to be done. The article also highlights the need for improved data collection and the use of minimum standards for electronic monitoring in tuna fisheries.
