István Nagy: Hungarian Melon Season Begins with High-Quality Melons

Watermelon import volume decreased by 51 percent compared to last year, which means watermelon growers can satisfy domestic demand and also export - said the agricultural minister on Friday in Ecser, adding that the Hungarian watermelon season starts with high-quality watermelons. At the press conference held at the Lidl Hungary logistics center, István Nagy stated that currently more than 1,300 farmers are growing watermelons and 310 are growing cantaloupes. Currently, watermelons are grown on 3,590 hectares and cantaloupes on 707 hectares; while the watermelon growing area remained the same, the cantaloupe area increased by sixty-two percent compared to last year - the agricultural minister explained.
