Italian customs seized 20,000 kilograms of almonds imported from the US in the Liguria region due to a breeding problem of parasites and mold that could harm consumers' health. The importer claimed that up to 5% of the almonds were rotten, moldy, and insect-eaten, falling within the "seriously defective" category. However, the court rejected the importer's claim, and the almonds have been banned from the market.
