Italy offered Spain its immediate support to face the outbreak of swine fever detected in wild boars in a region of Barcelona. The Minister of Agriculture, Francesco Lollobrigida, expressed his "total solidarity" and recalled that his country has accumulated years of experience. "Italy eradicated African swine fever in several regions and continues to combat new outbreaks," he assured. Lollobrigida made it clear that Italy is ready to collaborate with teams, knowledge, and methods that have already proven successful. He also called on the European Union (EU) for a common strategy that allows for a rapid response to this type of threat. As he explained, the outbreaks that arise in areas near Germany keep several Italian regions under constant surveillance.
