The Ministry of Agriculture in Bulgaria has declined to provide digital forecasts for the grain harvest this summer, but expects it to be good, with average yields similar to the record-breaking harvest of 2021. The Minister of Agriculture, Ivan Ivanov, announced that Bulgaria has sufficient wheat stock for both domestic consumption and export, maintaining the 11th place in the world for wheat exports. The government has provided assistance to the agricultural sector during the COVID crisis and the war in Ukraine, with more support planned from the European Commission. A change is expected in the regulation to redistribute 5% of unspent funds from the Rural Development Program to pay farmers 33 million euros, a change that is expected to happen in July.
