Indonesia: RI asks Japan for tuna import duty discount

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Indonesia asks Japan to give similar treatment to tuna entering the country. The reason is, Japan currently imposes lower import duties on tuna from Thailand. Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto explained that Indonesia and Japan had completed the general review of the IJEPA in 2019. Where, currently, protocol discussions are still being held between the negotiating teams of the two countries. Airlangga also mentioned a number of important issues that are still pending in the discussion. This includes Indonesia's demand for market access for canned tuna exports to Japan. "We see that there is a complementary between demand in Japan and supply in Indonesia for this tuna product," said Airlangga in a written statement received by CNBC Indonesia, Monday (25/7/2022).
