The Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Agricultural Technology Institute (Director Ko Sang-hwan) announced that, based on the results of this year's production site inspection, the cultivation area of the new variety of persimmons bred in Jeju is expected to expand to 79.1 hectares by 2026. The institute has bred a total of six new varieties, including 'Urihyang', 'Dalkomi', 'Gaeulhyang', 'Seolhyang', 'Matnabong', and 'Red Star', from 2018 to 2023. These varieties are considered high-quality with higher sugar content and lower acid content compared to existing varieties, and are suitable for Jeju's climate with a heat yield of 5% or less.
