Jeollanam-do province in South Korea has announced a plan to release 14.74 million aquatic seeds across 14 cities and counties this year, aiming to restore aquatic resources and boost the income of fishermen. The seeds will include 15 high-value species such as black sea bream, lobster, crab, and abalone, with releases scheduled throughout the year. The province has been executing this project since 1988 and aims to release 560 million seeds by 2024, at a total cost of 43 billion won. Scientific surveys since 2007 have shown the project to effectively increase fish resources and income for fishermen. The province also intends to implement other marine ecosystem restoration projects like creating sea forests and installing artificial reefs.
